The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) on August 13, 2026, issued the Petroleum Products (Maintenance of Production, Storage and Supply) Amendment Order, 2026, to further amend the Petroleum Products (Maintenance of Production, Storage and Supply) Order, 1999.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Clause 2 which states “definitions” the following has been inserted namely: -
“‘(j) “Schedule” means a Schedule appended to this Order”
o Clause 3A which states “Operational directions for Liquified Petroleum Gas production and supply” has been inserted namely: -
“(1) It is hereby ordered that all public sector, joint venture and private sector oil refining companies, and upstream oil companies shall, –
(i) Develop augment and at all times maintain adequate infrastructure for storage, evacuation and transport of Liquified Petroleum Gas either by itself or through other entities viz railways or road tankers adequate for the quantities specified in the Schedule;
(ii) Implement all technically and economically feasible measures and technologies such as naphtha-toliquified petroleum gas conversion, gasoline-based fluid catalytic cracking unit to petro-fluid catalytic cracking unit, or other upgrades, to maximise Liquified Petroleum Gas production beyond current minimum producible quantities as specified in the Schedule, with intimation to Centre for High Technology or any other authorised agency, whenever such an upgrade is undertaken.
Explanation. – For the purposes of this rule “upstream oil company”, means any person, firm, company or other legal entity engaged in or undertaking the exploration, appraisal, development and production of mineral oils.”
This shall come into force on August 13, 2026.
